Office Information: About Your Visit
 Appointments
Please call the office to make an appointment in advance. If you're unable to keep your appointment, please call us as far in advance as possible so we may use that time to see another patient in need of care. We make a sincere effort to adhere to our appointment schedule and appreciate your patience if we're are late due to emergencies or hospital surgery.
Office Visits
The initial office visit may involve Dr. McCarthy, the nurse practitioner or both. If your first visit is with the nurse practitioner she will be consulting with Dr. McCarthy and you will be given a follow up visit with him. The initial visit requires x-rays. The need for further diagnostic studies will be evaluated and ordered if necessary after a clinical exam. You will be expected to answer questionnaires regarding your problem and complete a health history.
Surgery
Dr. McCarthy does surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital on Mondays and Thursdays and at Newton Wellesley on Tuesdays and Fridays. Thorough planning is required for surgery which includes in part, a necessary medical evaluation, blood donation, preoperative teaching class, ordering equipment and implants needed, as well as coordinating Dr. McCarthy's schedule with operating room availability in very busy operating rooms. We will make every effort to try and accommodate your needs as well, therefore, we appreciate your patience. When you are discharged from the hospital, you should call to make your follow up appointment.
Fees & Payments
We make every effort to decrease the cost of your medical care. Therefore, we request payment arrangements for all office services at the time they are rendered unless prior arrangements have been made. We only accept cash and checks. If we are a participating provider of your insurance company, we'll bill them. However, payment is the patient's responsibility. We'll help in any way we can to assist you in handling claims.
Insurance Information
We are members of many area Preferred Provider organizations and accept assignment from Medicare.
Prescriptions & Renewals
Please request all prescriptions and authorizations for renewals between 9:00am - 5:00pm, Monday through Friday, when our full records are available. Renewals requested at other times will be filled only for extreme or emergent circumstances..
